Hi and welcome back!
As I was talking about fibre and the importance of making sure you are drinking enough to prevent constipation yesterday I thought it was a good idea to remind you about the other benefits of being well hydrated...
When it comes to losing body fat it is even more important than ever to consider your hydration. All functions within the body require the presence of water and for these functions to occur quickly and efficiently we need a well hydrated body. In short, being well hydrated helps boost our metabolic rate meaning we will burn energy faster - I have read that a well hydrated body burns 3% more calories than a dehydrated body- which makes sense when you think about it as once the body is dehydrated it will start to shut down!
Another thing to remember is that we get a lot of our fluids from food, especially fruit and vegetables, so if you are not eating a lot of fruit and vegetables you are even more likely to be dehydrated and more likely to eat more of the other foods(which are higher in calories) to fill up your fluid reserves.
And, when it comes to exercise, our muscles also hold a lot of water, so if you are dehydrated, your muscles are likely to be weaker - and what do we want to become?...Stronger!!!!
Bearing all of this in mind why would you not want to drink more water?
Health benefits of drinking water:
- regulate appetite
- increase metabolism
- boost energy levels
- less water retention
- alleviate some headaches
- help reduce blood pressure
- help reduce high cholesterol
- ease joint pain
- decrease in risk of some cancers
- less chance developing kidney stones
- release toxic waste products
- improves skin
So, bottoms up and cheers!!

Hi Folks
What a great weekend so far!
Yesterday (saturday) had a great fatscrap work out and went through some really important stuff. I particularly liked thinking about my motivation being strong enough and if it isn't is it really what I want or is it that my expectations are out of alignment??!!?!? Lots to think about.
Food for yesterday inc;uded:
Breakfast - flapjack and tea before Fatscrap
Lunch - omlette with ham and a little cheese
Followed by grapes and a banana
Shopping in the afternoon so lots of walking around town.
In the evening we went to London for a knees up. I drove so that I wasn't tempted by alcohol. We had a fantastic night catching up with people we hadn't seen for years and a good boogy with a great band. It was all in the garden so lots of fresh air. I drank water an a couple of diet cokes. And at the end of the evening I had a coffee. They had caterers in with Curry so I had a spoon of each with loads of salad.
I felt I survived quite well.
Today - slept in (as we didn't get in until 3am!), so no swimming (which I would like to start doing on a sunday morning).
Breakfast - porridge cooked with water, with yog and lots of nuts, seeds and chopped dates and apricots.
Tea with soya
I've since been shopping and got what I needed - No jam though as Morrisons don't do it! I was fed up about that!
I have also been into town (walking!) and had one of those delicious Cherry smoothies wiht a protien ball - lovely! Although I still feel tired!
Now home and plan to have organic chicken and lots of veg later.
Just had a cup of tea and oatcake with organic cream cheese with blueberries - I THINK I'VE FOUND HEAVEN!!! This makes it all worth while - it was georgeous!!! I'm trying strawberries next time!!
As I am tired I am just going to have a couple of glasses of water and veg out in front of the telly for a bit - it is sunday after all.
Then maybe later I will have some energy for my next college assigment and having some timeout with my Fatscrap book and thoughts!
Loving it!
Claire
Hi Claire. Thanks for your blog and food diaries! Good to hear that you listened to your body, had some rest AND WATER!
Just a note for everyone about diet drinks. Just because they contain no calories that doesn't mena they are good for you!!
They usually contain too much sodium, chemicals and additives. There is also a theory that when you drink something that is artificially sweet you just end up craving more sweet as the brain hasn't received the sugar it has expected. Interestingly the people that I know who are addicted to diet coke - around 8-10 cans a day - are obese, so what does that tell you?!
Good to hear that you managed to get to the shop to buy your own supplies - so important that you get to chose the foods you want to eat. Thinking about your food, choosing it, buying it, handling it, preparing it, looking forward to it and eating it are all part of the digestive process - "Bon Appetite" x
