FAT-SCRAP MARCH 2010 DAY THREE

"Nothing tastes as good as being healthy and looking good feels"

Interestingly when people have asked me about FAT-SCRAP the biggest resistance to the Programme is giving up either the sugar or the alcohol or both! "Oh but sugary foods/alchohol make me feel good" is the usual comment..."I couldn't possibly give it/them up!"

Yes, I agee they do taste nice and do make us feel good..but for how long? How many times have you enjoyed these foods and then felt guilty or not so good for having them? They might make you feel good in the short term but in the long term....??? The question I ask is "Is the short term sacrifice of sugar/alcohol worth the cost if it is going to lead you having a healthier and fitter body in the long term?"

Good morning everyone and a big warm welcome to sunny Spring!!! How wonderful to see that sun shining. Being almost two months into this programme now I thought I would respond to Sue's comments about sugar and alcohol. Giving up alcohol for me was not an issue at all as I rarely drink at all but sugar....a different matter altogether!!

When I reviewed my diet I was ashamed to say I was a total sugar-holic. I realised that every meal I ate had sugar of some form in, not to mention the snacks I packed in every day - cake, biscuits, chocolate...

I was determined to stick with this plan and not let myself down but was seriously worried about how I could cut the sugar out. In reality I was amazed how easy it has been.

Now two months on I can reflect and say yes I am human and I have had the odd piece of cake on a special occasion like my birthday but otherwise my regular healthy eating plan has not included sugar at all. Do I miss it? Not one bit! The benfits I have felt have been life changing:

1. PMT is now virtually a thing of the past - something I was sure was connected to my sugar intake as I always craved and ate loads of sugar at this time of the month.

2. I no longer have that big afternoon slump where I felt exhausted and craved a sugary snack.

3. My energy levels are high - all of the time. Before when I ate sugar they were much much lower. I got stuck in a spiral of needing energy to exercise so having a sugary snack then needing another after to replenish all the energy the exercise had taken out of me...wherever was the benefit in that?!!

All in all believe me it IS worth it - VERY worth it. So new Fat Scrappers or those considering the programme, do try it. The proof as they say is in the (sugar free) pudding!!!

And just one more thing....

My number one tip would be ALWAYS make sure you have plenty of the right things in the fridge and cupboard. That will help you to focus on what you CAN have rather than what you can't.

Sorry havent managed to get on line before now what with the entertaining yesterday and work today! Yes Sue I cooked a lovely roast dinner yesterday with absolutely loads of veg, my friends enjoyed it emmensley! Today, well popped to the shop quickly to buy a few bits and thought I'd have Sushi for lunch as just about to go for a long dog walk in the sunshine! I started eating it whilst on here talking to you and as you've been talking about sugar thought I'd look on the packaging and to my horror there's 24g of sugar in a medium pack of Sushi!!! EEEEK and there I was thinking I'll be so good, but now I think of it, it does taste really sweet and now I'm wondering if this is the case for all sushi?? Does anyone know?

I think Jayne, your food choices so far sound delicious and I cant wait to get some ideas from you.

Apple it seems I havent seen you for ages, but from the sounds of it you've been having a great last week?

Right off now to enjoy the sunshine! x

Hello all
Yes the weather today is lovely - a real lift to the spirits. I just love the crocuses all appearing. It reminds me that Mother nature regenerates herself each year - she is tireless in the way she produces beautiful trees and flowers despite the odds. I know myself that pruning a plant hard, creates new shoots and new growth.
I find myself looking at pruning out the old habits and thought beliefs around my life, my food, and my exercise, that have taken my energy and allow new shoots to grow and watch where they take me.
I ate one too many peices of oaty pud last night and my thoughts this morning wandered to Sues question of what hunger was I filling- because it was not food. It was a bit of an uncomfortable feeling realising the hole I was filling. - So to excuse the pun, food for thought and work in progress.

I extended my morning dog walk today to 40 mins and enjoyed every step (the lovely morning helped)and have made good choices of nutrition so far. Now out on second dog walk before the sun disappears.
Great to see others comments and be in touch. I really like it - Thanks guys x

Well interestingly today Jayne has thought about Spring and how it relates to her and these were similar to my thoughts today as I wrote tomorrows blog. It asks some questions you may like to think about..and answer if you wish!

Apple...it's so rewarding to read your experiences with the FAT-SCRAP programme, I hope it encourages other readers to make some changes to their food choices and feel as good as you do now!

Pear... yes I'm not surprised that Sushi has sugar in it..I think it is mainly in the Nori (seeweed). I guess the best thing is to start making you own!!

Jayne..I'm pleased that you recogni.sed your hunger. Even with eating healthy foods it is still easy to eat for the wrong reasons..and even easier to kid yourself that it's alright to eat more because it is healthy!! Eat too many apples and you will put on weight if you are eating more energy than you are using!!

Lovely posts today everyone! You are all so good for each other!!

Oh no Sue! Why did I not look at the soya yogurt label? No it has sugar in it. I hate throwing things away. I will remember to check labels.

Funny how sugar manages to creep into everything, no wonder we can be so addicted to it!! These manufacturers are very clever!!!
