Hi and welcome back!
A reminder of a previous blog about helping you to make healthier choices....
Eating near to nature is the theme to our food choices, so with this in mind I thought I'd show you a way to think about this...
Take an apple from the tree..its a grade A food - nature itself!
Process it by peeling it and chopping it up....it's now a grade B food
Process it more by cooking it .....it has now become a grade C food
Up to here, the apple is still just an apple, it has just had some goodness taken away from it.
Add some sugar to it......now it is a D grade food
Add some pastry to it....
and now you have something that is apple, minus some valauble nutrients, with added less nutritious foods .................. so becomes an F grade food!!
F = FAKE AND/OR FAT STORING FOODS!!
How many grade A foods are in your food choices today?

Great work-out yesterday Sue with you and Fran. Thank you! I also did a Zumba class, followed by a meeting! Plus work in between of course! What a day of activity! SO i have to admit i am pleased with myself that i achieved so much - wouldn't have been ablet to do that 6 weeks ago, eh Sue? Have a huge challenge tonight as going to the Lime Leaf in town to celebrate Thai New year and a special friend's 50th birthday! Wish me luck! Have a lovely day y'all xx
Fantastic Mara..well done!!
And a great choice of restaurant for tonight. Thai food can be so healthy on the whole even though they do use sugar in most of their savoury dishes but again, it's all about balance, as they believe that a meal should comprise of salty, sour, sweet and pungent..and on the whole it is only a small amount of sugar they use. If it is true Thai food it will not contain wheat or dairy, although the Thai's have introduced dairy into their cooking now, influenced by the Western diet!
So, really not a huge challenge at all if you eat like the Thai's - and the spicier it is, the less you will eat! You might alos find that wine doesn't really go with Thai food, and be more likely to enjoy a glass of water, and that after the spiciness and richness of the meal you are less likely to think about a desert.
My favs are green papaya salad and green or red curry, yummy..now I know what I am going to cook for dinner tonight!!!!
Enjoy!!!
Hello, sorry been a bit quiet of late, but after reading Mara's blog today, she made me feel very hungry and wanting a Thai Green Curry....yummy!!!!! I had the challenge of going to Lime Leaf in the first week of this plan, and Mara, it was so easy, had soup to start followed by Prawn Green Curry with coconut rice, so filling and to top it off a bottle of sparkling water, so if I can do it, I'm sure you can too!
Yes had a good session with Mara and Sue yesterday and felt motivated again as I know I haven't been so committed to the plan of late. I'm not sure why this is, as I know in 4 months time I'll be going on holiday and want to look good in my bikini, and I'll be so disappointed and cross with myself if I still look fat and wobbly!!! So I'm now focused again and raring to go, I need to brake through this barrier I seem to be at to kick start me into feeling positive and successful again!
Hi girls!
Fab workout yesterday Sue, so good to be back after so many absent weeks! Felt wonderful and so energised after and slept SO well. Did think I was really going to ache this morning...especially my shoulders...but I feel grrrreat today!
Lovely to meet Dusty and to see Jayne again. Boy we worked hard, didn't we girls?!!
Dusty, keep strong with your saboteur and don't let her make you feel bad about yourself.
I learnt a big lesson myself in that way last year. I had a good friend who was making me feel horrible about myself, by making little jibes and comments about my size, how I looked etc. It used to make me so upset - and what did I do to make myself feel better?? Eat of course.
What I learnt though is it doesn't matter what other's say to you, only YOU have control over how those comments make you feel. So I chose to change my perception, accept that her opinion of me was HER opinion and I chose to reject it and build a better and more worthy opinion of myself.
One day she said something really unkind and I assertively made the decision to tell her how much it upset me. She reacted badly and in turn that ended our friendship. It was sad for me to accept how little she thought of me and how little she cared about me but I felt so much stronger as a result.
With your saboteur you would obviously not have that problem as there is unconditional love there, so maybe if you feel brave... tell her how much her comments hurt you. Maybe she does not realise?
Anyway, good luck with that but do remember that ultimately only YOU are responsible for your feelings and can chose to reject anything which you don't want - and that is so empowering.
One last thing....Pear you could never be wobbly!! You are gorgeous! Don't beat yourself up about not being so committed lately - just get back on the wagon and let it roll!!! I hope to see you soon for some fun in the gym! I do miss you, you are such a great exercise buddy!!
Thank you Apple for your words of support and encouragement, both to me and to Dusty! You sure do know how to say the right things! Miss you too and hopefully once the boys go back to school (gosh dont these holidays feel like they've gone on forever!!), I'll see you back in the Gym! Bet you're not missing my grunting though!LOL x
From Mandy...
I have just finished another training with Sue, wow I was buzzing!!! You are so inspirational Sue, thank you. Had a good but busy day at work. Tomorrow I have an early start so I will be taking something to eat for breakfast with me, I think I will miss my porridge - but I will adapt. Well here is todays food diary:
Breakfast: porridge, unsweetened soya milk, hemp seeds, chopped banana
Snack: pistachio nuts
Lunch: rocket, spinach, watercress, tuna (in spring water) radishes, beetroot, celery, tomatoes, cucumber, balsamic vinegar, oatcakes
Snack: cashew nuts
Tea: Steak (dry fried) steamed new potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, steamed peas and sweetcorn
Enjoyed my food immensely today - here's looking forward to tomorrow.
Well done girls, good to hear you all supporting each other..and me, I really appreciate your feedback and your thanks..roll on your next training sessions!! x x
Hello! Apple, thank you for your comments - a lot to think about! Well we had a busy and productive day, so all good. It sounds funny but I've gotten out of my comfort zone because of the time I have had to myself in the last few months, it's been good to go drive to places and not be trapped my by own fear of my inability! I can actually drive ok and I can do it! I'm getting more happier to be independent, I haven't had the time before! Time is a wonderful thing to test your abilities!
Breakfast: Muesili with fruit bits in it and rice milk. No snacks today: out and about. Lunch: As we were out I fancied Italian. I had a starter of 3 slices of Ciabatta, with chopped onion + tomato and some rocket garnish. Felt fine! Main course: Grilled chicken (with lemon & chilli glaze) with chips and salad. Tap water and an Appletiser to drink it down with. No pudding - was sorely tempted, but have had a Ciabatta - so stopped with that! Tea was roast chicken, with 3 small roast potatoes, carrots and gravy.
Walked a bit doing shopping, trouble is I had to go at a slower pace which meant I didn't feel that I had extended my leg muscles (unlike I do when walking with hubby!).But good side, not much sitting about, until lunch!
Sounds like you had a lovely day Dusty. It's seems a pity that you felt you had to come off the programme again today and have wheat and sugar. I do realise you are making better choices than you would normally go for and you made a great choice to say no to desert today and all these changes will help you; I just can not stress how much better you metabolism will work for you if you avoid these foods at this stage. It's very easy to think that a little of these foods won't hurt and I would say that if you were working on maintaining your current weight and body fat levels these choices would be great, but why not give your body the best possible chance to work perfectly for you and fuel yourself with the most nutritious foods you can, then you will know that each time you exercise your body is going to respond more positively and start burning fat instead of storing it. x
