Hi and welcome back!
A reminder about hormones...
Hormones play an important part in how our bodies respond to food and exercise.
Leptin is a circulating signal that reduces appetite, and is believed to increase physical activity and feelings of well being, but in general, obese people have an unusually high circulating concentration of leptin and are said to be resistant to the effects of leptin.
A study published recently suggests that the consumption of high amounts of fructose causes leptin resistance and elevated triglycerides in rats. The high fructose diet rats subsequently ate more and gained more weight than controls when fed a high fat, high calorie diet.
Insulin is a hormone that increases appetite, decreases physical activity and feelings of well being by supressing leptin, as well as promoting the chemical dopamine which makes a person want to eat to get the feel good dopamine “rush”. It is the high level of sugar and the low level of fibre that are now in our diets from processed, manufactured foods that promote insulin production.
So by lowering your intake of sugars and increasing your fibre intake over the last few weeks you are likely to have lowered your leptin resistance and your levels of insulin, and in turn are eating less, exercising more and feeling pretty darn good!!

Hi all,
Yes I would totally say the above rings true for me. I think that almost like a drug there is a period of withdrawal symptoms from sugar. This is when it would be so easy to dip back into the biscuit tin for 'just one' to regain that high/rush.
But I think this is where Fat Scrap has been such a winner for me where so many other eating plans have failed. By totally cutting out sugar for a fortnight and then only having the very occasional food with sugar content, the way I feel and my hormone levels have been totally transformed.
I believe hormones play a huge part in our health. Just look at how the fluctuation of hormones in the menstrual cycle can result in PMT. Regulating all hormones and bringing them into a natural balance can give an overall increased sense of well being...and by the way Reflexology can really help with this too!
Great to be back in the gym and working out with Sue, Pear, Mara and Laura today, really enjoyed our session and have so much energy now!! Bet my legs and shoulders ache tomorrow though!!
Apple it was sooooo lovely to see you in the Gym today after what must be 4 weeks....and may I say how fantastic you look, you can really see a difference in your body shape and you look younger!!!!! So so pleased for you, well done you are an inspiration to all us fat scrappers!!!!
Really enjoyed the session today with the above, even if it was quite warm and I had a 'glow'!!! I then did a walk with the dog and a jog/walk with a friend tonight, so loads of energy too....I wonder how I'll feel tomorrow?

Pear!! It was so great to get us old fruits together again wasn't it? I do love working out with you and remember fondly back to week one in the snow when we couldn't walk for days after our gym sesison and had to be helped on and off the toilet!!! Oh happy memories...and how far we have come!
I too had a huge burst of energy after the session today and have just been out for a powerwalk!! It's great to feel this way isn't it?
Thank you so very much for your kind donation to my charity walk. I'm so pleased to have done something postive towards such a good cause but do have to say that London in the middle of night in my bra is definitely preferable to Southampton Town Centre in the daytime!!!
Any Fat Scrappers who are interested in training for the 26 mile Moonwalk in London next year with me I'd love you to join me and my friends! Maybe have a think if you might be interested and let me know? Early days yet but registration opens in October and places get filled within a day so we need to be organised. If anyone wants to know more then ask me or Sue as we have both Moonwalked before. And maybe Sue...would you be interested in writing a training programme for us for next year?
Well done of all you for great training today, and pleased to hear you felt energised from it! So often we can feel so mentally tired and then make excuses for not being active, when actually activity can re energise us and lift us out of the lethargic mode.
I'm impressed with you Apple going to do the moonwalk again but not surprised as it is such a great worthwhile event and certainly challenging. Unfortunately my health issues are preventing me from doing it again although I would dearly love to organize group of us doing it but the next best thing for me would be helping you train for it, and yes, I have my training programme from last time which we could use. Infact, thinking about it, there might be a way I could do it with you, let me have a think about it...in the meantime anyone reading this who might be interested in joining in, get in touch with us soon!!
